If your website isn't turning up on Google, first check whether Google has actually found it. If it has, it's often down to how relevant your pages are, how much competition there is or how much Google trusts your site, rather than a technical hiccup.
Check whether Google has found it
Type site:yourdomain.co.uk into Google, swapping in your own website address. That shows you which of your pages Google has picked up. If you use Google Search Console, you can check your main pages there too. It often tells you if a page is missing and sometimes gives a reason.
Look for technical blocks
- A 'noindex' tag left on by mistake after a new site goes live
- A robots.txt file blocking Google from certain pages
- Missing redirects after a rebuild, so old pages vanish from search
- Pages that are tricky to find through your own site links
Check the page matches the search
If you're hoping to show up for a service in a particular town, you'll usually need a proper page about that service and proof that you actually work in that area. Just having a homepage often isn't enough.
Look at the competition
See which sites are coming up ahead of yours. Their pages might go into more detail, or they might have more reviews or get mentioned by other websites. That gives you a clue about what you could work on.
